Issue 13: User-generated Missions
IGN has an interesting report on City of Heroes from this year's Comic-Con. While Issue #12, which release recently, unlocked City of Villains for those who didn't own it but owned City of Heroes, or vice versa, Issue #13 -- details shared at Comic-Con -- contains something even more intriguing for would-be game designers.
In the free update, planned for a fall 2008 release, players will be able to design their own missions and allow others to play through them. As IGN's article suggets, there will be a template you must follow for the number of NPCs you place within the mission, but the basics are all up to you -- everything from creating your own storyline and dialogue to deciding how the NPCs fight back and who you're actually doing the mission for.
First City of Heroes changed the face of MMOs with their character customization; will they do it again via user-generated content? Only time will tell, and we'll be sure to share more details about the update as we discover them, but this is certainly exciting news to hear come out of the NCsoft camp.
