Curse Client Version Update

News | April 16, 2008 (4 weeks, 1 day ago) | by Kody | Filed in Curse

We've pushed live a major update for the Curse Client today with a number of bug fixes. It is highly suggested that all Curse Client users download the new update -- found here as soon as possible to make the most out of the client.

Here's a quick recap of what we've fixed with the update:

  • Addons now update properly.
  • Fixed "Curse Client should be running but isn't".
  • Fixed some of the permission errors from occuring.
  • Removing curse packages and then manually adding a package is now detected as an unmanaged addon ( before only packages never having been installed were detected )

As mentioned above, this is a very major bug-fix update that we highly suggest everyone download. To get the update, which will patch the client to version 0.13.5.2, click here.

If you've recently updated the client, be sure to check the "About" box and ensure the version listed is 0.13.5.2 -- 0.13.5 will not include the above-mentioned bug fixes.

It would be really be great if you could put a word in to the programmers to make the Client package available for mac users, i'm sure there are alot of us out there that would like to use this program

My Avira Antivir Program identifies curseupdate.exe as a virus. Is that normal?? Sorry for bad english!!

It's not Malware, your antivirus is giving a false result. I will forward this to the developer of the Curse Client so this can be resolved soon :). By the way, Kaspersky Anti-Virus is so much better and it doesn't give the false result yours do. Also make sure your anti-virus heuristic detection isn't set too high or it will claim any setup is a virus pretty mcuh.

http://www.kaspersky.com

Since you use AntiVir, follow these steps to help them out to resolve their program returning a false positive:

In the unlikely occurrence of a false positives we would kindly ask for your help and send the file to our virus lab using the quarantine functionality of AntiVir.

A heuristic detection might be a false identification if one or more of the following are true:

  • The program has been used for a very long time and is known to the user
  • The program was installed by the user himself
  • The program is from a trustworthy source

In order to enhance detection and reduce the rate of false positives we recommend you to send the file to our virus lab for further analysis.

Send a sample via the quarantine manager within the windows product:

Killersilver: On boot up the client checks for addons in the /interface/addons directory at the location pointerd by in the following registry keys:
HKLM\\SOFTWARE\Blizzard Entertainment\World of Warcraft\InstallPath

If that does not exist, then the following location is tried
HKCU\Software\Classes\VirtualStore\Machine\Software\Blizzard Entertainment\World Of Warcraft\

Only addons in these directories can currently be managed in the Curse Client.

In: HKLM\\SOFTWARE\Blizzard Entertainment\World of Warcraft\InstallPath

the value is:

D:\World of Warcraft\

which is the actual location of the WoW folder, anyways, it's not showing up all the addons i have.

As for the other key, it doesnt even exist on my registry.

As the client is right now, only addons in D:\World of Warcraft\Interfaces\Addons will be detected, that is what the Curse Client is reading from the registry.

that means in the registry key "HKLM\\SOFTWARE\Blizzard Entertainment\World of Warcraft\InstallPath"

the value should be:

D:\World of Warcraft\interface\addons

???

Since installing this the client has shown me a massive list of updated addons, some of which I don't even have installed, and some of which havnt been updated in over 2-3 weeks.

Out of that list, I don't have BiggerBrother, Cenarion Serpents, YACL or Fabled Legion Guild Pack. I do however, have the remaining addons on the list.

When exactly did that happen?

Just after I had installed the newer version of the client today

I formatted my main hard drive and kept my WoW folder on a secondary HD.

When i installed this version of curse, it doesnt show up the addons that are already installed. It only shows up the ones i newly installed using this version.

How can i get it to recognise all the addons i have already there?
